Knicks Triumph Despite Brunson’s Injury
In the second round of the NBA Eastern Conference playoffs, the New York Knicks continued their battle against the Indiana Pacers at home. Despite a foot injury, Knicks’ key player Jalen Brunson led the team to a 130-121 victory over the Pacers, securing a 2-0 series lead.
Brunson’s Limited Playing Time
Playing with a foot injury limited Brunson’s minutes in the first half, providing an opportunity for the Pacers to capitalize. The Pacers scored 73 points in the first two quarters, taking a 10-point lead. Tyrese Haliburton, who had a subdued performance in the previous game, scored 22 points in the first half, while Obi Toppin contributed 13 points.
Anunoby’s First-Half Performance
OG Anunoby led the Knicks’ offensive efforts in the first half with 22 points. However, limited contributions from teammates relied heavily on Donte DiVincenzo’s shooting, especially after his crucial three-pointer in the previous game.
Knicks’ Second-Half Surge
In the second half, despite the Pacers maintaining their lead, DiVincenzo and Josh Hart kept the Knicks within striking distance. Brunson’s entry into the game in the third quarter added firepower, with him scoring 10 points in that period. A 16-6 run by the Knicks in the third quarter tied the game.
Intense Fourth Quarter
The game remained tightly contested well into the fourth quarter, with only a one-point difference midway through. In the decisive moments, Hart’s three-pointer extended the Knicks’ lead. Brunson, DiVincenzo, and Hart, all Villanova alumni, dominated the game. Despite Pascal Siakam’s contributions for the Pacers, they couldn’t withstand the Knicks’ onslaught, resulting in a 9-point defeat.
Brunson Leads Knicks’ Victory
Despite his injury limiting him to 29 points, Brunson still led the team in scoring. Remarkably, 24 of those points came in the second half, crucial in securing the victory. DiVincenzo and Anunoby contributed 28 points each, while Hart added 19 points and 15 rebounds.
Looking Ahead
The Knicks outperformed the Pacers in rebounding, shooting percentage, and three-point shooting. Haliburton’s 34 points led the Pacers, but their overall support was lacking compared to the Knicks. With a 2-0 series lead, the teams will face off again in Indiana for Game 3 on May 11th. (Casinoplus)
